After watching fundie Christian and faux-historian David Barton’s appearance on The Daily Show, your brain will hurt. Mine certainly does. I’ve never seen someone pick cherries so fast. Barton digs deep to find Republican Jesus in the bible. His relationship with facts is casual at best. It’s as if Stewart is interviewing a deranged conspiracy theorist wrapped tightly in an intricate delusion. Take this interview one degree closer to crazy town and it’s taking place in a psychiatric ward.

Stewart is an excellent interviewer, but Barton is such a slippery sleaze ball and he can’t land a punch. Disappointing, but the interchange makes clear the deranged mental gymnastics necessary to justify a Republican Jesus.
