|Atheist Prays to Win Lotto and Wins. Now He’s a Believer!|

New York resident and Atheist/Agnostic, Sal Goodman, asked Jesus to prove he exists by letting his Mom win a cool million in the lotto. Lo and behold… Mom won $1 million in the Lotto! How much more proof does this non-believer need? Now he’s a believer!
But Sal, maybe the Flying Spaghetti Monster or a fairy or even some sort of magic sandwich heard your call and answered with the million dollar prize. How can you be sure it was God that heard your prayer? More specifically how can you be sure it was the god described by Catholic religious doctrine?
Now, this is quite a stretch, but have you considered that no supernatural force may have been involved. Could this have been a great coincidence? Maybe it wasn’t even a “great” coincidence. How many people played the lotto? What percentage do you think prayed to win? Perhaps it would be an odd occurrence if the person winning the lotto had not prayed in advance to win?
Sal, how often have you or your Mother prayed and your prayers not been answered. Perhaps a defect in our advanced monkey brains known as “selective memory” has caused you to forget the “misses” while applying great significance to this “hit”?
(Note to self: Must remember to purchase Michael Shermer’s new book, The Believing Brain: From Ghosts and Gods to Politics and Conspiracies.)
