Ricky Gervais had a feature article in the April edition of Rolling Stone. They asked him for a photo and he submitted this one without an alternate. They turned him down and went with a less controversial photo of Rihanna. A bit too edgy for you, eh Rolling Stone?

This was not the pic that was submitted to Rolling Stone. In an article written by Mr. Gervais himself for Huffington Post (huffingtonpost.com/.../...) he stated that he submitted a picture of himself as a clown with a gun in his mouth and no alternative. This pic was placed in the same article but was not submitted to Rolling Stone. This was just a pic that he happened to like a lot and was considering using for his upcoming "Humanity" tour.
